I wasn’t sure what to think of this when I first saw it but felt that it was worth a shot. I was tired of sacrificing my more expensive equipment when on location and wanted something that would allow me to have what I needed when I needed it. For the money (keep that in mind!!) this is a great system. I’m more than an amateur, but a little less than a pro, but have managed to make several of my clients very, very happy while using this setup. Oh, the softboxes are a pain in the neck to set up and the stands are a little wobbly but all in all, I found this to be a terrific deal. I still need one more light and would just as soon not have the gels since I never use them, but everything else works find. The reflectors are a good size, the backdrops will do in a pinch (my old stuff is far better so I haven’t given them much of a test).

If you are looking for an inexpensive (all things being relative, of course) break into the world of studio photography, I think you would be hard pressed to find a better bang for your buck. Will this set last you forever? No. But it will help you hone your skills so that as you start to make the big bucks you can start upgrading without doubting your abilities.

Overall I wasn’t impressed with the quality of this product. I am currently a 4th year college student and even at my “unprofessional” studio photography level, I found that this equipment was cheap and may break down over a short period of time. The photo of this product on Amazon doesn’t clearly show the actual quality of the pieces in this kit. (for example, the light stands were flimsy and if taken outside would definitely fall with minor wind. Also the backdrops are NOT made out of muslin, but a cheaper quality that reminded me of a plastic picnic table cloth).

I gave it two stars because at the VERY basic level this kit would suit your needs as a beginning studio photographer.

I would strongly suggest contacting the seller before purchasing for information about quality of:

    Light stands

    Backdrops

    Size of reflector

    Softboxes

    Umbrella

Well, everything came as mention for the price it’s a great value. It’s made in China (China copy). The wireless module is a little buggy, it’s probably the cheapest thing in the package. But for the rest I coud not complain about anything.

I bought this kit and have since returned it. Thanks for taking it back. The lights did not operate as advertised. The wireless transmitter that goes in your camera shoe comes with a single receiver, so you can set off a single light remotely. You would need to buy another two receivers to set off all three lights at once. Their tech support advised me that all of the lights could be set off by the flash on my camera; I was never able to get this to work with any of the lights. (The lights also did not have the same sensors on the outside that were shown in the documentation — so they no doubt have changed them at some point.) All lights do come with a cord that can connect to your camera, but there’s no way to connect more than one at a time.

Is it unreasonable to think that a “complete” three light portrait studio would include at least one way to set off all three lights at once??

Otherwise, I was willing to put up with the too small soft boxes and the not quite as steady as they should be stands, but if you are going to sell me all of this stuff as a complete package it has to work. It did not.
